Top Note Valentine treats

I found some of these Snicker candy hearts the other day and thought they would fit just right on the top note die cut. It was close, but they fit perfectly. I used the slit punch on the top and bottom to adhere them. I tied some ribbon around them and added a circle tag. I need to make about 25 more, so it's a good thing they are quick and easy!

Recipe:

Paper: real red, pixie pink

Ink: real red

Stamps:Stampendous, dollar stamps from Michaels

Other: circle and scallop circle punches, dew drops, heart eyelet, real red ribbon, double stitched red Offrey

Birthday Card Swap

Here are the cards from the card swap at work. I think they all turned out great! It's so much fun to see what everyone comes up with.

January was Birthday and next month it's Sympathy cards. This time I plan to get going on mine earlier instead of waiting till the last minute. {Scroll down to yesterday's post to see mine.}
Have a great Friday!

Card Swap

I belong to a card swap at work and this month it's Birthday cards. I was in a hurry to get them done in time, so I dug out an old favorite we made at an SU workshop a long time ago and made a bunch of them. I did make a few changes. I took off the ribbon and guess what I added? Yes. A scallop circle flower! This time though, I just used my punch instead of the Nestabilities and I put a flower and a button in the center. I changed the colors and the stamp set, too. Brent and I bike ride alot, so when SU came out with A Time for You set with this bike, I was really excited. I'm not sure if this card has a special name for the fold or not, but you just fold the front piece back in half, and add the rectangle card stock pieces on top. Here's what it looks like when you open it up:

I hope they will like it! I'll post the cards from the swap soon.

Recipe:

Paper: so saffron, certainly celery, pretty in pink, chocolate chip

Other: scallop circle punch, button, flowers, brad, crystal effects, colored pencils

Stamps: Always time for you, Birthday

Ink: black stazon, chocolate chip

Here's the recipe

I was over on http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ Stephanie's blog, looking at all her recipes. I can't believe she and her family ate meals everyday from the crock pot for a whole year. I love my crock pot...but a year? I decided to try one of her family favorites, Brown Sugar Chicken. I figured anything with sugar has to be good. I was right, too. It was very good, even better the next day. I shredded the chicken though, and served it on buns. I made just half the recipe and had enough for several meals for the two of us. I will be making this again!

More?

Yes, I made some more cards with flowers using the scallop circle nestabilities. I promise this is my last post with them. Really. Even though I am not tired of them yet, I will move on to something else. So today I will do a double post...check back later and I will have a recipe card for you. The card at the top was made with Haiku paper. The leaves and card are old olive and the flower and oval are from so saffron. The ribbon is also old olive. The inside says ,"because you are in it." and looks like this: The bottom card and flower is riding hood red with so saffron in the center. I used the scallop edge punch that I finally learned how to use properly at JaNell's SU workshop last week! No wonder why I was having so much trouble. It sure is easy now! It says,"We are never alone..if friends fill our lives."

Here's the inside :

I love both sentiments, they are from Close to my Heart. Don't forget to check back later for a new recipe card!

More flowers

This is another card inspired by the flowers made by Ilina Crouse. For this one I used 4 layers of scallop circles with baja breeze. I could sit and cut these out all day. Maybe I will!

From the heart....

These flowers are so much fun to make! I was inspired by Ilina Crouse at My Creations. She had put them on some boxes she had made. I'm not sure how she did hers, but I used my scallop circle nesties, cutting into the center on each petal, and layered them with foam squares. Mine has only 2 layers. I used the oval punch for leaves. The card is a 4"x4". I think they are so pretty. I REALLY got into these so you will be seeing more of them!

Recipe:

Paper: riding hood red, bella rose, pink pirouette, kiwi kiss

Ink: riding hood red

Other: scallop circle nesties, CB folder swiss dots, circle punch, oval punch, heart brad, scorepal

Hugs to you!

I liked these treats so much I made another one! For this one I used the SU stamp set Love It. The sentiment is Tagtidbits from angel company. I use that set alot. It has 36 pieces {all words} and they are just the right size for so many projects. Another thing I use a lot is my slit punch. Here I slipped the white card stock under it and added a heart brad. I also popped up 2 of the hearts with foam squares. The red double stitched ribbon is one of those 99 cent ones from Offray. When you pull off the ribbon inside you will see I put some candy hearts. I should put some Hershey hugs inside to match the sentiment but I don't have any on hand. I am too warm and lazy to run to the store today. It's COLD out there again! {like -21 below}

Smoooch!

Look at all those red smooches! I love that little stamp from angel company, I've been using it alot lately. I saw the pattern for these cute treats over on Kerin's blog. You start with a 3 1/2"x 9 1/2" piece of card stock. Then score it at 1 3/4", 5 1/2", and 6 1/4". Fold and decorate! The front stamped piece of card stock is attached with foam squares at the top only, so you can tie it closed under it. Inside I put some M&M's.

Simple notecard

Here's a quick and simple note card I made to put with some treats I'm sending my son for Valentines day. Inside it says "Luv You!" I made this with some stamp sets sitting around that I bought at a garage sale last summer that I haven't even tried yet, and I am determined to use them! They have just been sitting there getting dusty on my shelf. So I used one called Sweet and Simple for the square border on this card. The set is retired and has 5 square borders, some flowers and leaves. It's cute. Really cute. I don't know why I have been neglecting it. The size is just right for 3x3 cards. I was so excited to buy it and it was such a good deal...I HAD to have it. This seems to be a recurring problem of mine...anyone else have that trouble?

I love peanut butter!

I was so upset when I heard about the peanut butter recall as I have been eating Skippy on my toast all week! Then I checked the list and found out it wasn't on there. Good, then I could still try this great recipe from http://www.bigredkitchen.com/. I needed bars for church the other day so I made one pan with an old tried and true recipe, Turtle Bars, and then thought I'd try something new so I picked these because I LOVE peanut butter. Wow. Good choice. It's awesome! The peanut butter taste is great. I am definitely trying more of her recipes! Just look at this goodness waiting for my mouth....
YUM!

Recipe:

Paper: chocolate chip, white, real red

Other: real red ribbon, scallop circle punch, circle punches

Is there anything better than chocolate?

I don't think so! Especially high on my list are Dove chocolates. I made a few toppers for these bags filled with Dove hearts. I got the small bags at Wally's a long time ago. I'm almost out, I hope they still carry them cuz they are just the right size for a small treat like this. Four fit inside perfectly. Just right for a little something for some friends at work!

Recipe:

Paper: rose red, pink pirouette, white

Ink: rose red

Other: ribbon, heart brads, scallop edge punch

Stamps: For a Friend, Holidays and Wishes

SU Workshop

Last nite I went to JaNell's SU workshop with some friends and we had a fun time. We made 3 cards. All three SO cute!!! This one is made with the Valentine Bundle. That candy lane paper is really nice, the colors and patterns are so pretty.

I thought this was really clever. It's a 3x9" card scored at 2 5/16" from each side. You use a circle punch so the Dove candy shows through, and tie it closed with a ribbon. The top piece with Love stamped on it has only 2 foam dimensionals at the very top adhering it to the card, so the ribbon can slip underneath it to tie at the side.

I really like the color combo on this one. I plan to make some more as I have this stamp set and paper.

She had also made each of us one of these. Inside is a Kit Kat bar. Thanks JaNell! It was nice to see everyone again as I have missed several workshops the past few months. I hope I can make it to more workshops this year...so much fun to stamp with friends!

Happy Heart Day

Last year after Valentines Day I found these cute little ceramic heart candy dishes on sale at Michael's. I decided to package up some M&M's, throw a tag on, and stick it inside the dish. I used real red ribbon to tie the bag together. A quick cute gift!

Got any scraps?

I have so many scraps it's starting to bother me...such a waste! I decided to make some tags. Here are a few I threw together. I'm going to challenge myself to make something with scraps once a week in hopes I use alot up. It sure would be nice to have a smaller scrap box. I used to organize my scraps by color in folders, but I have been too lazy to keep it up. I need a day to just reorganize my craft cave I guess, but there's always something better to do. Like right now look at my new SU catty.....

Heads up......

Go on over to http://creativetreasure.blogspot.com/ and sign up for some blog candy!

Turtle Bars

Mmmmm. My mouth is watering just thinking about these sitting over there on the counter! I had to make bars for church coffee tomorrow so I relied on an old tried and true recipe I have had for years...Turtle Bars. One can never go wrong with these. So quick and tasty. Those of you who don't eat nuts could omit-there is enough other good stuff in them to make them taste great. Maybe no one will notice if one or two are missing....

Recipe:
Paper: old olive, white, chocolate chip
Ink: chocolate chip
Stamps:Think Happy Thoughts
Other: felt ribbon, spiral clips

Trip Review

Several people have asked about our trip to the Keys, wanting info for planning their own trip. So I'll try to give a review of what we liked and didn't like. I apologise to my stamping buddies up front for posting this as its not stamping related....but I will be posting again tonite for you all!

First off, we have some great deals to share. Brent used http://www.farecast.com/ to purchase our flight tickets. This sight tells you WHEN to buy your tickets at the LOWEST price. It predicts for you, and also emails you telling you when to buy. It was very accurate, he uses that sight quite often, as he flies often. For our car rentals, he always uses http://hotwire.com/ They guarantee one of the top 5 car rentals and so far every time we have used it, we ended up with Hertz. Really cheap! We also left our car at http://parknfly.com/ They had a coupon and gave great service. When they picked us up from the airport and took us to our car, he had us stay in the warm van while he scraped the snow off our car and got it started! He got a big tip for that...what a treat for us.

We flew into Fort Lauderdale and drove down to Florida City. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which we did NOT like. The room smelled funny. That day we went to Alligator Farm http://www.everglades.com/. It was FUN! Do it! I loved the air boat ride..even the 360's he did. I had bad hair the whole trip and the ride didn't help!

As you can see, I wasn't to crazy about holding the alligator, though. My daughter LOVED it. I can't figure that girl out. She freaks over spiders but likes stuff like this. Here is our 6'6" son lookin short for a change!

Then we headed to http://robertishere.com/ It's an awesome fruit stand that sells fresh shakes. I had the key lime and it was wonderful. We loaded up on fruit for the week, trying several kinds we had never heard of before. I would've spent MORE time there as they had so many different food products to browse.

Both places are just minutes from the highway and easy to find, so if you're headed down to the keys be sure to stop. We also had planned on going into the Everglades National Park, which was very close also, but didn't have the time.http://nps.gov/ever Next trip for sure. Yes, we plan to go back...and back...and back again!

We stayed at http://hawkscay.com/. It was close to Marathon, which is in the middle of the keys. We got a good deal on a villa. It was an incredible resort, perfect in every way, and they spoiled us rotten. We would go back in a heart beat. The villa had lots of room and the kids each had their own space, which was really nice. We loved their pools, the fire pit at nite, their marina, and their restaurants. Here's a few photos.

We spent alot of time at the resort in the sun and pools. It was our favorite thing to do. A few days we ate right there. The Grill Side was good and Tom's Harbor house was outstanding. Service was great...there was always someone around to get you a drink, towel, anything you needed.

We had plenty of fresh fish every where we ate...dolphin,crab,Mahi,grouper,yellow fin tuna to name a few. We had it grilled, fried, blackened, and sauteed. All was awesome, the kids couldn't get enough. Our daughter decided to eat fish for every meal while on our trip, she did too, and never tired of it!

I am big on ALL food so I had checked Food Network for places and several sites for reviews. We were not disappointed. Here are some of our favorite places we tried. Alot of them had live music and you eat outdoor on the water. Here's a few: http://www.fishhouse.com/ on MM102. We ate there on the way back to Fort Lauderdale, too, and you can see our son is a bit tired of my picture taking....

.

http://loreleifloridakeys.com/ {MM82} was awesome, too! Chilly that nite by the water, though, so we had jackets on. January temps were in the upper 70's and low 80's for us.

http://nonamepub.com/ we took forever to find, way in the boonies. When we got there it was packed with a long wait so we left, but the pizza smelled great and we were sorry to miss it. Next trip! We ate lunch with friends at Wahoos...great food and setting by the water! MM 83.5

My favorite was Porkey's at MM47.5.

It was a BBQ joint on the water. The food was SOOO good! The fish was incredible, too. I'm a big BBQ fan and the pork was to die for. They also had deep fried key lime pie that was great! We ate there a couple of times we liked it so well. The music was awesome and the staff so friendly!

We did do a few things other than relax at Hawks Cay. But it was hard to. Once you get down there, you have a lot planned, but end up sittin in the sun sippin something cold. This was an interesting place http://robbies.com/

For a dollar you could feed the tarpons off the dock. It was fun! We all really got into that. The guys checked out fishing there and had planned on going out, but never got to that either. Next trip! One day Brent and our son went snorkeling with a friend who has a place in the keys. They had fun and saw a shark and a stingray. Here's the sunset from their dock. {bay side}

My daughter and I took advantage and did some shopping. We found some cool sarongs. As you can see, I didn't model mine!It was an awesome day and we ended it that nite playing a fierce game of Farkle back at the villa. Another day we headed to Key west. That was interesting. Bars and more bars! We did try a few...http://hogsbreath.com/ . Also margaritaville.com. I hafta say that http://sloppyjoes.com/ was alot of fun. We also ate there and the food was GOOD. The music even better! We went to the Southern most point and had our pic taken. The http://piratesoul.com/ museum was incredible. They had a Disney produced 3-d sound program that literly sent shivers up my spine! The artifacts were great and they have the only authentic pirate chest dating back to the 1600s. Sooo fun! We also saw http://melfisher.org/ the Maritime Museum. WOW. Tons of artifacts and I held a $15,000 gold bar. Yes they had security men. There was an emerald worth $250,000,too. Fascinating place! The celebration at sunset on Mallory Square was VERY interesting. Alot of acts to watch...here are a few. One day we went to http://pennekamppark.com/ and did the glass bottom boat tour. Saw alot of stuff I can't remember the names of! That was fun! You could also do a ton of stuff there. We had planned on renting Kayaks, but ran outa time. Next trip!

On our way back to Fort Lauderdale we stayed 3 miles from the airport at Mariot Springhill Suites.We had plenty of room, soft beds,lotsa pillows, and a great breakfast there before we flew home. I like to stay at Marriots and have a membership there. If you sign up for their card you get free nites and points. So I used some on this. There were several things we had planned but didn't get too. Like Alabama Jacks for the conch fritters that are heaven on a plate,http://theaterofthesea.com/, Barracuda Grill MM 49 is not much to look at but supposed to have fantastic food, A lobster Reuben at http://keysfisheries.com/ , http://bahiahondapark.com/ which is a great beach{we did go stop at a few beaches..Smathers for one}

the Everglades Park, http://brazalena.com/ at MM83, and too many places in Key West to mention!

All in all there isn't much we would do different and plan to go again in a couple years to do what we didn't get time to do. The plane trip back was rough but like I said, the best part was that the 4 of us were together for a whole week! What a blessing God gave us!

Wait a minute, I changed my mind, I do have one regret and one complaint! My regret is I didn't eat a key lime pie on a stick, and my complaint is...doesn't anyone stamp or scrap in the Keys? I didn't see ONE craft store...and believe me, I was looking!
